Grass Fed Beef is a high quality and healthy meat. Research has shown that grass fed meat is lean, contains a high percentage of good fats (such as omega 3s and CLA) and has beneficial antioxidant vitamins and minerals. When it comes to GMOs, climate is a huge factor. Climates that have cold, winter months can result in cattle being barned, removed from their open pastures, and left eating food other than grass. When cattle have diets rich in grains, it creates an acidic environment in their digestive systems, leading to disease and the need for treatment with antibiotics. Pasture-based farming restores natural ecosystems and wildlife habitats. This reduces the reliance on petrochemicals, improves the soil with organic matter, and reduces greenhouse gases, especially CO2.
The Biltong we sell, which is manufactured by Biltong USA, is imported black angus grass fed beef from New Zealand. All cattle from our farm are raised on open pastures and are based on broad acreage free range principles. Therefore, these cattle have access to wander and graze freely. Another advantage of not being raised in any confined pens or barns is that this beef is GMO-free due to the control and regulations of the New Zealand government, as the use of GMO is illegal. The import of this meat is also inspected, approved, and regulated by the USDA.
